If you follow me on Instagram then you will have seen the hairpin leg dressing table I made for the spare bedroom. This might be one of the easiest DIYs piece of furniture you could make that can be easily adapted to create other pieces of furniture. Hairpin legs have been on trend for a while now and I can’t see it leaving anytime soon as people like myself, love the simple industrial look to them.
Here’s the table I made:
As you can see from the pictures above my table doesn’t have that ‘typical’ dressing table look. This just shows that furniture can be what you want it to be. This table could easily be used as a console table, you can use shorter legs and create a bench or even use a different top and you could make a side table.
The wood I used for my table top is from B&Q and is called Oak Waney Edge Furniture Board. I picked this wood as it was the perfect size, I wanted it quite narrow but long. I also liked the look of the wood as it has a raw front edge, which I did sand slightly, this gives it a more rustic feel which suits the spare bedroom.
I sourced the hairpin legs from eBay; there are loads of different sellers on eBay of these legs but you need to be careful as a lot of sellers sell them individually and not as a set of 4 which can end up being more expensive. The ones I bought were a set of 4, I’ve found that 71cm is a perfect table height. You can also get these in loads of different colours to suit any style.
The first thing you want to do is prep your table top. If you have chosen a real wood table top then this an important job. The wood I selected didn’t need too much doing to it. I gave the edge a slight sanding and then protected the wood by using a clear wood stain.
Luckily the legs I bought came with the right wood screws I needed to attach the legs to the table top. This step is pretty straightforward but you do want to take some care to ensure that you get the legs in the correct position. But once the legs are screwed in then you are done!
And that’s it, yes it is that easy! It’s such a simple DIY but so effective. I love my dressing table and its made even better knowing that I made it myself.
I hope you enjoyed reading about how you could recreate a simple DIY table. I would love to see if you try this at home.
